Bridesmaids (2011)

The Official Poster of the Movie

I’ve just watched this movie a few days ago. A little bit late, I know, since it was originally released on May 2011. I wasn’t really eager to watch it until I saw some award shows on cable, such as Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards. “Bridesmaids” is named as one of the successful movies ever made in 2011. Even rotten tomatoes gave good reviews to this movie. One of the actors, Melissa McCarthy, is nominated as Best Supporting Artist in Academy Award, and the movie itself is nominated for Best Original Screenplay. So, a few days ago I decided to watch the movie, and I think it was pretty good.

It’s basically a story about a girl named Annie whose bestfriend, Lillian, is about to get married. Both of them are friends since childhood and Lillian wants Annie to be her maid of honor. It means, in American culture, the maid of honor is the one who arrange all the planning before the wedding, such as the dress for the bridesmaids, the bachelorette party, the shower, and everything else relating to the bride. This gets tricky for Annie since her hands are already full with her own problems. Her cake business went down, her boyfriend walked away from him, and once she fell for a guy, it turned out that he’s not interested in upgrading the relationship into more than just a physical contact. As the storyline goes, her life is just getting worse, with her roommate, and also with one of the fellow bridesmaids, Helen, who also thinks Lillian as her bestfriend, and gave Annie an atmosphere of competition to win Lillian.

I really like watching Annie goes nuts as her life hits rock bottom, and in the middle of being frustrated she got the chance to meet with a really cute cop named Officer Rhodes and had a fling with him. But when he tried to get more serious and persuaded her to get back into baking, she bailed out, feeling that she doesn’t need him to fix her. This movie actually is about a lot of kinds of relationship, even with Annie alone as the main character. It’s about her relationship with her bestfriend and the fear of letting her down in the big day, her relationship with her annoying roommates, her fellow bridesmaids, her own mother, her f*ck buddy, and with an officer that end up to a romance fling.

It’s my favorite genre of movie, romantic comedy, and I always enjoy this kind of movie. As for McCarthy’s acting, I think she’s great, but I’m not sure if it’s Oscars’ material. I don’t think her role is significant enough to get the nomination. I’m not saying it’s bad though, in fact she’s quite hilarious and refreshing. But I still can see the movie having a strong storyline even if they remove her character. Then again, who am I to judge? At the end of the day, I enjoy watching the movie and if you’re a fan of a chick flick or a romance comedy, you should watch it too! :)

How I Met Your Mother

At first, I’ve been watching this sitcom in random episodes on Star World. Then I got the full episodes from the first season to the fourth, and some episodes of the fifth season. So, I was like, crazy for it. I watched every episode twice. Maybe because I’m also in holidays. But I could watch something else, instead i chose to watch How I Met Your Mother for the second time.

Well, the story basically about a guy named Ted, on the age between twenty something to thirty, and in the search of true love. Did a lot of dates, sometimes one night stand in the middle, and he’s friends with a married couple that has been together since first year of college, a guy who claimed to be a womanizer, and a girl who’s afraid of commitment. My favorite character is the womanizer guy, Barney Stinson, played by Neil Patrick Harris. He’s annoying, but at the same time very catchy, I guess he did a great job of acting there. Or as he claimed in the serial: he’s awesome.

What drives me crazy is actually because till the fifth season they never really tell who is the “Mother” that Ted talking about. Because the story actually told by Ted for his children on the year 2030, and it’s basically a flashback story of how he met his wife, who soon to be the mother of his children on the future. But until now there’s no clue who the heck is the mother, beside the yellow umbrella. Anyway, you have to really watch the serial to understand the story. Cos I’m basically just telling an incomplete version of mine.

Well, I’m still annoyed and every time I watch an episode of the sitcom I kinda shouted to myself, “tell me who the mother is!”. But I do still enjoy it no matter what cos it’s pretty funny and I’m soo into comedy thing.

Anyway, I hope the next episode will give more clue about the mother. Cos I found it’s kinda irrelevant now to call it by the name of “How I Met Your Mother” if it’s not really telling you anything about the mother. But who am I to judge? the show is still enjoyable either way.

the cast of the show!
